It all began with a plunge! A young man once stood on the banks of Hooghly River. Removing his clothes, he jumped into the swirling waters of Hooghly. A perfectly ordinary act except that it was not. The man didn’t know how to swim. In fact, that was the reason he took the plunge. He wanted to tap into his survival instinct and learn swimming. As the river pulled him down, he fought to stay afloat. He had to swim to survive, and he did. The young man learned swimming there and then. A couple of months later, the same man would have the courage to leave the flourishing family business of hosiery and plunge into the unknown waters of bookselling. He was hungry and yearning for a different path. D. Mehra was soon going to repeat his Hooghly feat. And his time came soon.
